How can I get my shih tzu to stop crying when alone ?
I believe that in order to train a puppy to stay quiet in his crate you must ignore his cries for a certain length of time, this would be okay if I didn't live in the city and had neighbors. He cries and we have to give into him in the night time but even during the day I try to leave him alone in order to practice for when I will return to college (I have short days generally, at most six hours and usually with breaks where I can return home to let him out and play with him). My boyfriend works and he needs his sleep but the walls are like paper so even if I'm the one who gets up to him he still gets little sleep. Today I got up at around 7 to him which wouldn't have been bad if I hadn't already been up the whole night so I gave him what he wanted and let him sleep with me on the couch, I needed some sleep so I was desperate although I know in the long run this could be bad. I have a crate for him but I think the main problem is that he doesn't like to be on his own. I need to sort this out as soon as possible. Hey we have one of those little dogs here too, his name is Jack and he was agressive towards anyone that came to the door. I have found a book with advice on how to modify a pet dog behaviour, have a look at it and let me know what you think. Answered by Phill05 1 year ago
