My Golden is scratching himself crazy. Anyone have a cure?
My Golden is scratching like crazy. He loves the snow and as warm wheather comes on he just can't stop scratching. I ask the vet what can be done, but only gives him a shot and that's it for about 2 days then it starts all over again. (he uses his hind legs and digs at his sides and belly.) Golden's are notorious for having allergies. As the weather changes the allergy becomes much more acute causing some dogs to scratch themselves into a skin infection. If the shots are not working (I assume steroids) there are daily allergy pills dogs can take. If the allergy is Atopic (airborn) allergy meds like the ones humans take often help. That being said DO NOT use human medicine but ask your vet for an equivalent. There are also topical creams of various types and medicated dog shampoos. If your vet has not recommended any of these things you may want to get a second opinion. Answered by Janice-HK Animal Speak 2 years ago
