My cat's back claw is splitting. What should I do?
I own a Persian cat and since that past couple of days I am observing that the back claws of my cat is splitting and it has really become very dull to look at. Is the splitting of the claws a normal thing or should I take it to a veterinary service or clinic. Kindly help me. In Cat health problems Asked by Doris 2 Answers 357 Views 2 years ago Resolved |

The splitting of the claws is a very natural thing. Just like our nails are split, in the similar way the claws also get split periodically. There is no need to take any tension for it. After a short period of time, the splitting of the claws would stop. If the problem persists then there is no need to panic. It might be because of deficiency of certain vitamin; especially Vitamin B. Take your cat to the veterinary clinic where the vet doctor would run an electrolyte blood panel if it is deem necessary. But that would cost you little money from your pockets. Answered by Crazycat 2 years ago

Many a times the splitting of the claws occurs due to the deficiency of certain vitamins. But mostly it is genetic in nature. The old and damaged nails are replaced by the new ones. There is no need to panic about it. If the splitting of the claws continues then change the diet of your cat. Try to give him food that is rich in Vitamin B because the splitting sometimes occurs due to the deficiency of vitamin B. Also apply certain lotions on the claws of your cat. This would stop the splitting of the claws. If the splitting of the claws still continues then the problem is a bit serious one. At that moment it would be advisable to take your cat to a veterinary clinic where the doctors would cure this problem. Answered by CALIC007 2 years ago
