An algae eating fish like bristlenose or Siamese algae would be a very good option for you. These fishes not only require less food but they also clean the algae that get accumulated near the corner of the tank. But it would be advisable for you to put as much less fish possible in the container. It is so because less fish means less food required and less food required means less toxic wastes going into the tank and less wastes going into the tank means less water change required.

The different kinds of fishes that you can go for are: guppies, mollies, zebra fish, snails, Corys and white clouds. Since you don’t want to change the water in the tank regularly, don’t go for salt water tank. It is because these salt tanks require lots of water and regular cleaning of the tank. It would be ideal for you to get a canister filter that can contain 75 gallons of water. In this water tank, you will have to change the water only after 6 weeks which will be quite convenient for you.

You can go for small fishes and a snail or shrimp for the algae control. These kinds of fish do not require extra care and can survive without food for months. Don’t go for messy fish like plecs, goldfish etc. Since you don’t want to change water of the aquarium very often, it would be advisable for you to check the stock of the tank. Cut the maintenance in half and hence you would not have to change the water from the aquarium very often.
