I have a 6’red tale boa and I have kept her in a 6’ Length 5’ Width and 8’ Height which is fine for her size. It is best to do 20 gal per one inch of the snake so you can buy it or build it. Your snake will get bigger so you have to be prepared from the beginning. You can make it quite big so that you don’t have to change it after few days. It should be easy to clean and should be easy to get to all its sides.

You can use either glass combo or wood. But you have to be careful in choosing the types of the wood. Some types of wood can cause some problem like upper respiratory issues with the reptiles. One of such wood is pine. I am not sure of the dimensions. I have seen many in which some are long and some are tall. It is really up to you so just before building it think of your python and what they need.

If I have to build a terrarium for a 2 ft python then I would consider the cage of 2 ft high, 2 ft deep and 4 ft long. I have seen many people house and adults in the smaller cages such as Exo-Terra 12x12x18" Glass Terrarium's and they are simply fine.

For the ball python the terrarium should be of five by six boxes and made of wood. The bottom lined should be of fake glass. In the top there should be a whole so that you can hang your heating lamp. Inside you can put some sticks which should be stiff to the sides. You can put also a closed top box on the side of the terrarium having a small hole in both the ends; so that your snake can feel free and want to hide itself then can use it.
