Nobody really knows actually why do they do that but I think when they are riding in the car they might be pretty much in ecstasy. They use to smell the air as it rushes by and they also like to feel the fresh air blow in their face. They love to see the outside world.

But you should be careful and take of your dog when he sticks his head out because it is not good for them to do that as he might get injured when road debris or insects will fly into his eyes, windpipe or nostrils. And also there are more chances of being hit by something in the face. So, from next time when take your dog out in car be careful and just try to not let your dog stick head out of the window as there is a too much risk of eye injury.
