Why are my 16 yr old Lab's hind legs swelling?
Here are the details. I have this 16 year old Lab that recently for and for the first time in her life went into a false pregnancy and started lactating. This doesn't concern me, but at the same time, both of her hind legs started swelling up. Initially, this did not concern me too much either as the swelling appeared to touch to be water retention, which I found out, can be present during some pregnancies or even in false pregnancies. However, her legs are now about twice the size as normal and the swelling no longer feels soft to the touch. In fact, both her hind legs are very tight and actually feel hard to the touch. Here teats have begun to lessen in size and it appears that lactation is starting to dissipate. This all started about two and half weeks ago and at this point, she has a hard time walking as her legs and feet are too swollen to bend correctly.
